Start up

R/Click - Start - Open Programs - Startup

These programs are always run when your computer loads. Each is running using memory and resources e.g. FASTFIND

Create a new directory named startsav and move unwanted icons to this directory.

 

Ink Refills

Beware if manufacturer does not guarantee to pay for any damage to the printer. Ink cartridges have an expiry date.  Have one spare black only.

Printer  Ink

HP series. The black and colour have high and low capacity. Each series  uses a different black and colour. A soon as a faint line appears have one spare black  to continue your business prints.

 

Resilience

I have just had a payroll computer wipe out the bios which corrupted the hard disk which corrupted windows which had to be reloaded which corrupted the network drivers then the cashbook would not work and the internet would not work to get the cashbook repair......

Do you have a computer like this? Some 6 hrs of my time later!!

Have a backup plan and test it!! It takes me at least 4 hrs if I have a computer or a hard disk fail

 

DRIVERS

This is the software that links your operating system e.g. Windows to your hardware eg HP printer. Wrong  or incorrectly installed drivers will give you those intermittent network, printer and many other errors. Get the latest drivers from the internet.

This is a mains voltage power source for a computer. In simplified terms there is a battery charger, a battery and a 230 volt AC converter in the box supplied. The greater the VA rating the longer the computer will run without mains power. This gives a between 5 - 10 minutes to close down the computer.

 

New Hardware

Record your changes. Save your old hardware profile before adding the new driver. If your additions fail you can return to the old configuration. The faulty driver / device can then be removed.

 

 

To test if most new Games will run.

Don’t purchase a game needing Hardware 3D acceleration (e.g. roller coaster) if the tests don’t work

Microsoft Dropping support unless 8.1 update installed Article

Windows 8.1 Update First computer wiped out. Doing an automatic update.

Windows folder deleted from c:\ drive. Moved to X: drive.

After reinstall from DVD all client data lost. X: drive. removed

 Recommend that when closing down do not install updates.

Also turn off windows automatic updates.

The 800mb upgrade is available from my notebook if you want it. 32 and 64 bit.
